Best Pick- Dustin Pedroia- Jrad’s “12 days of the Draft” song joked about Billy drafting Dustin Pedroia in the 1st round of the prospect draft, in retrospect that would have been a MUCH better pick than Brandon Wood, dudeeeeeeee he lays the woooooood. Pety has gone from a little midget out of ASU, to hitting .150 through the first 2 months of his rookie year, to AL-MVP and top 3 2nd baseman. To get that value in the 7th round of the prospect draft is outstanding. Too bad for Jrad he traded him to the Quahogs for a 2nd rd MLB pick a few months later.
Worst Pick- Devern Hansack- Dudeeee Devernnnn is greaaaaat he pitched a no hitterrrrrrrr. Hansack did pitch a rained shortened, last game of the season so no one gives a shit, 5 inning no hitter, but that’s pretty much where his career ended. When Billy wasted his pick on him he was already old and not really a prospect at all. I see where the Red Sox bias plays in but how much nicer would have Dustin Pedroia have looked who went 2 picks later.
Still Could Make it- Chris Volastad- Going into the draft Baseball America had Volstad rated in the 40’s in their top 100 list. He rose the next season to the Marlins #1 spot and had a very promising rookie campaign with a sub 3 era. Last season he blew up, posting an ERA near the 5’s and although he started the season solidly, he ended it looking awful. Volstad is still only 23 and has enough potential to still be a solid starter.
% in MLB- 9 out of 12 for 75% much better than you’d think for the 7th Rd
dusty, joba, andrus, stewart? not too shabby.
